SEEING BLUE
GRAND JUNCTION, CO

The Seeing Blue project was a really fun project for the Olaf Jean team. Based in Grand Junction, Colorado this house was in need of a kitchen remodel. The original design was closed off from the main living room and didn't provide a lot of space for multiple people.
This new design completely opened up the kitchen by knocking down the dividing wall and providing a floating island in the center with perimeter storage cabinets. We kept the color of the cabinets white to allow as much light to reflect in the space as possible.
The client's love of Blue was the focal point of this kitchen and we decided to bring that element into the backsplash with a grey grout. The back side of the island features floating glass shelves for a display of the clients antique blue glass collection but still allowing visual connection to the main living space. We also featured natural oil stained wood columns to support the floor above from the center wall that was demolished. By adding an additional column, we kept the symmetry of the island and the space.
All new lighting was installed with an LED up-light above the upper cabinets and an LED downlight for under the cabinets giving a soft glow for the space and increased task lighting when needed.
