SPANISH GETAWAY
PEBBLE BEACH, CA
Pebble Beach, California
This remodel project is located in Pebble Beach, California. It's a beautiful 1929 Spanish Style Residence. The majority of the house was designed in the Spanish style but a previous addition in the 1980's didn't seem to match the rest of the character of the home. In an effort to blend the historic style with a fresh look, we created the feeling of a hospitality getaway full with little niches and star pendant lighting. We love the final look of this Master Suite Bath.
The historic home has a clay floor tile through-out so we wanted to carry the same language here too. We also kept with the same heavy Plaster finish for all of the walls as was typical in the house and accented it with a textured porcelain subway tile wainscot. The claw-foot tub was a classic addition that we felt worked perfect in front of the window facing the Spanish Moss on the trees in the natural preserve. All the plumbing hardware is from Signature Hardware. The star pendant lights are from Pottery Barn.
The dark wood on the vanity was meant to bring more of the Spanish style warmth to the space. By having this float off the wall it appears more as a piece of furniture in the room rather than a typical built-in cabinet. The vessel sinks are copper and show off the hammered texture. The sinks and faucets are also from Signature Hardware.
We wanted to highlight the niches in the space by adding a different tile backsplash. The arabesque tile was perfect with the porcelain subway tile and we felt dressed up the space a bit. The larger niche is asymmetrical giving it a little more character and uniqueness to it.
We went with a dark espresso grout for all the tile work because it felt more in line with the historic/old world style. It helped blend the new with the old.
Finally, we finished out the entrance nook into the bathroom by adding a small shelving unit and bench seat. We absolutely love window bench seats, as you can see in many of our projects, and this was the perfect spot with a view of the Spanish tile roof and mossy accents.
